DEFINING A COMMON CONDITION
What is ADHD?
If you struggle with staying focused, ADHD could be the cause.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects the prefrontal cortex, the area of the brain responsible for self-management. This common condition inhibits a person’s ability to pay attention, focus on single tasks, plan, follow directions, solve problems, and make decisions each day to some degree, depending on the individual.
ADHD Types & Symptoms
There are three types of ADHD: Predominantly Inattentive, Hyperactive-Impulsive, and Combined Presentation. Each of these types of ADHD presents a wide range of symptoms, some of which are listed below.
Predominantly Inattentive ADHD
Combined Presentation ADHD
Exhibits criteria of both Inattentive and Hyperactive-Impulsive ADHD
ADHD often presents itself during childhood, but symptoms may change over time with age. Symptoms also overlap with other developmental conditions. The only way to know for sure if you have ADHD is to undergo an individualized screening with one of our mental health care providers.
